Welcome to the Website of
The Rotary Club of the Howe of Fife
Above all, Rotary is about members having fun in a social context. Social inasmuch as meeting other people and doing fun things together. Social also in the sense of benefiting others, not just locally but in the world at large.
The cornerstone of the fun is our weekly meeting at the Village Inn at Pitlessie. Timed to correspond to the journey home from work, it allows people from all backgrounds and genders to relax and interact. Always fun and usually irreverent, a good meal is typically followed by an entertaining speaker with varied subjects that can range from art to zeolites. In the modern disconnected Internet age there is no substitute for the human interaction of friendship, as any casual visitor to one of these weekly meetings will soon observe.
Other social activities include theatre visits, sports, workplace tours, competitions, concerts, an outstanding Burns supper, and almost anything that two or more people can do together. It’s not just about raising money, it’s about members spending time, such as organising the Primary Schools Choir Competition or coaching students. As another example, just before Christmas every year we organise a very successful sale of donated potatoes around the towns and villages of the Howe of Fife. Together, through teamwork and fun, we raise a considerable sum of money for charity. It’s all about doing enjoyable things together and leveraging the local community for its benefit.
The money raised is often applied directly within our own community through local projects and initiatives. Meanwhile, membership of Rotary International, the world’s largest and most efficient charitable organisation, allows us to apply ourselves where we can make the biggest difference. For example, for many years we have directly supported a home for street children in Malawi. We have also responded to many recent international crises through the provision of ‘Shelterbox’ and other aid packages.
In short, as Rotarians we aim to have fun whilst doing good. See for yourself either from visiting these web pages or by coming along in person to one of our meetings.
